1979

Monday, October 1, 1979. Carrauntoohil, Rescue
An English walker slipped while descending the North face and sustained severe bruising. One of his friends went for help but got lost and returned to the casualty after five hours. The other then went to raise the alarm, and the Team evacuated the casualty that night.

Monday, October 1, 1979. Dingle (Burnam), Fatality (non-mountain)
A German student was reported missing and Gardai request the Team to search the sea cliffs. The victim’s shoe was located on the beach 600′ down.

Friday, June 1, 1979. Caherconree, Rescue
A Tralee diabetic failed to take insulin and collapsed unconscious on the hill. Team personnel revived her and stretchered her to an awaiting Civil Defence ambulance.

Thursday, March 1, 1979. Kilgarvan (Borlin Valley), Search
A Dutch girl was reported missing, and the Team searched the area where she was last seen. She was never traced.

Thursday, March 1, 1979. Knocknadobar, Rescue
A girl collapsed with exhaustion and was stretchered off the hill.

A group of Dublin walkers were benighted while attempting to traverse the ridge.

An English walker injured her leg at the ford and was evacuated with the assistance of a tractor.

Saturday, July 1, 1978. Carrauntoohil, Fatality
An experienced English walker fell while descending the North face of the mountain (a regular navigational mistake due to lack of clarity in the maps used at the time). He was discovered alive by a local farmer, but was dead on the arrival of the Team.

Thursday, June 1, 1978. McGillycuddy Reeks, Assistance
During the annual organised Reeks walk, two walkers from Dublin and Cork suffering from exhaustion were escorted off the hill by Team members.

Monday, May 1, 1978. Beenbo, Fatality
A Tralee man died following a fall whilst bouldering on an outcrop. He had been walking with a large group, who recovered his body, assisted by the Team.

Wednesday, March 1, 1978. Carrauntoohil, Search
A teacher from Clonmel and two others lost their way on descent. In a strong gust of wind the teacher tumbled 300 feet down a snow gully over Curraghmore. His friends descended via the Devil’s Ladder and alerted the Team. As the Team searched the gully the man was picked up walking out from the Black Valley, despite having two fractured vertebrae.

Dawn search for a Cork climber who was benighted above the lake. The climber was subsequently escorted from the hill.

A four day search (which also involved a helicopter) concluded in the night recovery of the body of a Dutchman who fell from the Beenkeeragh ridge.

An eight year old boy from Paris was rescued from a sea cliff in the face of the incoming tide.

A young female hosteller from Dublin suffered facial injuries following a fall on the Devil’s Ladder and was rescued at night.

A Scottish honeymoon couple were grounded in their tent in bad weather. The search took place over two days.

A member of a Cork scout troop broke his leg in a steep gully on the NE face and was rescued at night in appalling weather. The area is now known as ‘Collins’ Gully’

A search was undertaken after a car was left unattended by English visitors.

1966

Sunday, November 13, 1966. Carrauntoohil, Recovery
KMRT assisted in the recovery of the remains of a UCD student who died in a fall seven months earlier. The remains were located by members of An Oige and the Irish Mountaineering Club the previous day in an organised search of the east face of Carrauntoohil.

Tuesday, September 20, 1966. Brandon, Rescue
A German student was stretchered from Brandon in a weak state. He had suffered a fall approximately one week earlier and had retreated to his tent where he had been camping alone.

A member of an English school party was killed on Carrauntoohil.
